Dear MyNigeria reader,
The death of Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Ibrahim Attahiru on Friday, May 21, 2021, was a sad loss for the nation. Attahiru, who was appointed barely four months by President Buhari died alongside 11 others when a military aircraft they were in crashed in Kaduna. The cause of the crash is still been investigated.
While foreign leaders across the globe have condoled with the people of Nigeria and the immediate families of the deceased, many have questioned the frequency of these unusual crashes.
Prior to this unfortunate incident, the military has had cause to bury 33 of its own in similar crashes in six years. Also, during the period, the Nigerian military lost 11 aircraft to crashes. NAF spokesman, Edward Gabkwet, said the Beechcraft KingAir B350i, which was involved in the last two crashes will not be grounded despite the latest incident.
