Dear MyNigeria reader,
We hope you had a wonderful Christmas celebration. Indeed, the year 2020 is finally winding up and it is our hope that the upcoming year goes beyond your expectations.
Prior to the break, the major talking point was the capture of more than 300 schoolboys from the Government Science Secondary School, Kankara on December 10, 2020.
The incident which had a semblance of the kidnapped Chibok girls in 2014 sparked outrage, with many calling for the immediate rescue of the boys with the hashtag #BringBackOurBoys. Fortunately, they were released days later.
While a number of people were celebrating Christmas, others were in a state of shock after 10 persons were killed in an accident on Idofian-Ilorin road in Kwara State. On the same day, some yet-to-be-identified gunmen attacked the residence of Eris Paul, a former ex-militant leader also known as Ogunbos.
Musicians Davido and Burna Boy took their beef to a different level after their widely reported brawl in Ghana’s capital, Accra.
The novel coronavirus is still a major threat in Nigeria as we continually get news of casualties. So far, 85,560 Nigerians have been affected by the virus, while, 1,267 have died. The threat of a second wave is looking like a reality in January.
Our best wishes for a positive year. Please send any comments, suggestions, criticisms, ideas, news, and features to firstname.lastname@example.org. Follow us on all social media platforms at @themynigeria for updates throughout the day.
